Torn Ch2

“So, what did you get up to last night, Ivy?” he asked – grinning between me and Alex, then frowning at my cheek. “What the hell happened to your face? Did you do this?” He stood quickly and made a threatening move towards Alex.

“Whoa!” I got to my feet, stepping in front of Brent. “No, Alex didn’t do this.” I made finger circles at my cheek bone. “I got into a fight down the pub. If you really wanna know, Alex saved my butt.”

Brent stopped glaring at Alex over my shoulder and looked me in the eyes. He removed his glove and went to touch my bruise. Frowning, I backed away to my side of the fire.

“Will everybody stop trying to heal me? I’m fine – so no touching!” I sat down in a huff. Toby and Alex just stared for a moment before they pulled a few cans of beer from their bag and offered them round. I shook my head and they laughed.

“Hey, Ivy, now that you’re home, we should all go camping,” Toby laughed.
“Yeah,” Brent added. “That’ll be great. Get away from here. And the council,” he said in a low voice.

“Are you kidding me?” I held up my slightly numb hands. “No way, you guys. I remember the last camping trip I went on with you two. One of you,” I pointed at them, “shaved MY name onto the side of a cow.” They both fell about laughing. “There will be payback when I found out which one of you did it. Seriously! I was grounded – they wouldn’t let me leave the community for two months!”

While the boys giggled uncontrollably, I turned my attention to Alex who was watching with some amusement.
